I don't know if they do this in actual high school baseball games but I do know that in anime high school baseball games, you will see of the members of the student body in the audience beating on the gong or on the drums whenever the action gets lively just like when you go to a soccer/football game, you will see people with their noisemakers throughout the match. Reason I brought that up is because Nekkyu Koshien acts like an anime High School baseball game in fact, the name of the game translates to High School Fastball (Smoking Pitch).
